Marianna's Kitchen Collaboration

“ Many months ago, @aboutnatlife and I spoke about how to celebrate local market culture with art. To me, food & markets form a huge part of a country’s culture- and often, it’s our parents or grandparents who have the best stories to share. Flash forward and the super talented @aboutnatlife created this exclusive piece (on sale only at the kitchen when we open on weds) inspired by stories of her mother and market.

In her words “This portrait design is inspired by an embroidered artwork my Mother created years ago of a market vendor selling fruits. My mother made a lot of market-inspired artwork and craft back in the days, and those pieces were my first introduction to Coronation Market and ‘market culture’ in Jamaica. I was mostly fascinated with women who have mastered the art of carrying baskets of fruits/foods on their heads and decided to celebrate that with this design.”

Treat yourself to some beautiful art made by local artists. Invest in local art- that’s how it will grow. Next week, we’re also bringing MORE of the best stories to life: which is the everyday story of mothers, culture, and food. “
